Most people think that protecting the environment is hopeless because of the state the world is in, the wars or the way companies keep polluting the planet. Although these statements may be true, it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. Saving the environment is not a far fetched dream, but a reality that only needs to be worked on.
Firstly, instead of using your car to go to work, you should go on foot or even by bicycle, which has become easier nowadays as many cities have created cycling roads that make it safer. If you find that impossible due to your workplace being far away, using public transport is another alternative that you should consider.
Secondly, do not use plastic bags, although at first glance they may seem useful, they can be used repeatedly and are easy and cheap to buy, once they break and you throw them away they will not decompose. Plastic is unable to decompose like organic materials can, it only breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces until it’s invisible to the eye. This is bad for the environment as this microplastics will be eaten by animals, poisoning them and therefore poisoning ourselves. A good alternative are reusable bags made out of textile or paper, which will decompose with time.
Thirdly, try reusing everything you can. Using your imagination, a shoe box can become a playhouse for your children, an empty can could turn out to be the perfect pen holder. Reusing our resources is both environmentally-friendly and cheap. It’s also the perfect way to entertain yourself and improve your imagination.
In conclusion, protecting the environment is not difficult, but it does require an united effort. We must stand up to big corporations who try to excuse themselves by blaming the civilians about the state of the world. Most pollution is not created by the normal civilian but by companies and the only way to change that is fighting. We can’t let greed destroy our planet. If we stick together we can make a difference.
